Whole House Humidifiers
More and more customers prefer buying whole-house humidifiers to make their surrounding more comfortable and healthy. These systems are originally designed to make the entire house more humid and some of the latest models include additional features, like air purification. Properly installed and maintained these appliances will operate for a long period of time, protecting your family and the whole house from harmful affect of the dry air.
Whole-house humidifier is installed into the house's heating or cooling system and control the air moisture throughout the entire building. These units can be divided into three main categories: drum, flow-through and spray mist systems. Drum systems use foam or fabric belt to release moisture into the air. They are the least expensive, but should be cleaned periodically. Flow-through systems use a rectangular foam or expanded aluminum pad to transfer moisture into the air. These appliances should be cleaned from time to time and you also need to have a floor drain to handle the water run-off. In spray mist systems water vapor is sprayed into the heated air in your ductwork, when the heating system turns on. These units are recommended for use with oil-fired and gas-fired heating systems.
Whole-house humidifiers may or may not have a built-in fan. Selecting a unit it is also advisable to consider such additional features, like: humidistat, that will allow you to adjust the humidity level, and bypass gate, which is a good choice, if you have a heat pump or central air conditioning. A gate allows you to block off the humidifier during summer seasons, when you don't need to add extra humidity.
There are several facts, which should be considered before the purchase of a whole-house humidifier. These systems should be installed with the help of a professional and they should be cleaned at least every year. But still whole-house humidifiers are often less expensive, than portable ones, and since they connect directly to a water line in your house, they refill automatically. In addition they provide you with quiet and less expensive performance.
