Split Air Conditioners
Split air conditioning systems consist of two main units, which are installed in apart from each other. One unit is installed outdoors and another part is fixed indoors. These two main components of a split appliance have different functions. The unit located outdoors, called a compressor, cools the air and handles condensation. Such system arrangement prevents you from having troubles of finding a way to drain the water, created from the air conditioning process indoors. The inside unit, called the blower, is responsible for distribution of air in the entire house. This is done through a forced-air system, usually using a fan and a series of ducts, which distribute cool air to each room in the house with a vent. An intake vent will return air to the unit.
For those people, who live in houses without ducts, or who don't need to cool every room, a mini split air conditioning system may be an option. Split units provide more efficient performance, than window air conditioners, but they are more expensive.
Split system works by installing an air handling unit in the selected room. Two lines are then connected to an outside unit. While this will require drilling through an outside wall, it will not require the cutting, needed for air conditioning units with ducts. One line will deliver coolant to the inside component. The other line will take away condensation. For those users, who need to cool few rooms, several inside components can be installed to one outdoor component.
The advantages of split air conditioning system are obvious, as not having to run new ductwork is a big advantage. Running new ductwork is messy and expensive and, in some cases, duct system is not so efficient. Also, each room, cooled with split unit, will have its own thermostat, unlike the traditional central system that requires the entire house to be the same temperature. Split air conditioning system is also energy-efficient, because you can not cool or heat the rooms, which are not in use or used rarely. With this split appliance, you don’t have to pay for cooling the rooms you don't use.
But still, like any other air conditioner, split units have their disadvantages. The first point is the price, as they cost about 20-30% more, than a standard air conditioning system. But taking into account the facts that you don't have to install ductwork and that split units can not be used in the rooms, which you don't use, the appliance will pay for itself. Another weakness of split air conditioners is that the air handler, used in each of the rooms, will be seen. They can be mounted on the ceiling or on a wall, but they won’t be hidden away like the air handler of a traditional central unit.
Split air conditioning units can become a perfect option for your house or office. They offer their users a lot of advantages and main of them are noiseless work, energy-efficiency, ability to control temperature in each room separately and rather easy installation. These appliances can perfectly supplement your interior and efficiently provide you and your family with comfortable and cool atmosphere.
